ABOUT

Colectivo 84 is a theatre company dedicated to the creation and programming of new stage work. Founded in 2009 by Mickael de Oliveira and John Romão, the company’s main mission is to produce theatre works that focus on new dramaturgy and experimental scenic vocabularies that foreground plastic and choreographic practices. Colectivo 84 is also committed to presenting its new productions across Portugal, in an attempt to promote a decentralized cultural offer and fight the current asymmetries of the Portuguese arts scene.

Over the last ten years, the company has been consistently awarded funding from the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and it has produced over 25 new theatre pieces, as well as four editions of the END Festival - (Encounter of New Dramaturgies). Several of these productions have garnered national awards (Spa / RTP Awards, Time Out Lisbon) and have received rave reviews in high-circulation Portuguese newspapers.

Colectivo 84 has partnered, in Portugal, with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Teatro Nacional São João, Culturgest, São Luiz Teatro Municipal, Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente, Teatro Viriato, Centro Cultural de Vila Flor, Teatro Municipal do Porto; and, internationally, with Konstanz Theatre (DE), Festival Terres de Paroles (FR), Théâtre de Liège (BE), Centre Dramatique de Caen (FR), Teatro stabile di innovazione del FVG (IT), La Comédie de Reims (FR), etc. Colectivo 84 was a Portuguese partner of the European projects École des Maîtres and Corps de Textes (2010).
